Apple Event LIVE: Say hello to iPhone XS, XS Max and the cheaper iPhone XR!

Live updates from the Apple Special ‘Gather Round’ Event on September 12, 2018. Coverage began at 1 PM ET.

2:50 PM: AAPL shares are down 1.57% as the event ends at 2:50PM ET.

2:45 PM: Tim Cook thanks the audience on his way out as the stage cuts to the Apple Gather Round symbol.

2:44 PM: Apart from iOS 12, the Macs gets a new OS! MacOS Mojave will be available on September 24.

2:41 PM: iPhone XR, that starts at $749 for the 64GB model, will begin shipping on October 26.

2:40 PM: The iPhone XS will now be available starting $999 for the 64GB version and the iPhone XS Max at $1,099 for the 64GB version. The iPhone XR will retail at $749.

2:35 PM: As Apple showcases the new iPhones, AAPL shares continue to fall, trading 1.33% lower at 2:35PM ET.

2:29 PM: The iPhone XR will have one back camera, the same wide-angle 12 MP one in the iPhone XS.

2:27 PM: The aluminum body iPhone XR comes with 6.1″ LCD edge-to-edge display. The tech is now called the Liquid Retina Display. The XR does not have a Home button and supports FaceID. It also features the A12 Bionic chip!

2:25 PM: THERE IS ONE MORE iPhone!! The iPhone XR.

2:17 PM: DUAL SIM finally comes to iPhone!! That too, with dual stand-by! The new iPhones will use a physical sim and an e-sim, a software-based SIM standard – except in China, where models will the capability to use two physical SIMs above and below the modified slot.

2:14 PM: The new iPhone lets you alter the depth of photos already captured using the A12 Bionic chip. iPhone XS has 30 minutes more battery life than the iPhone X, while iPhone XS Max will give 90 minutes more juice than the X.

2:12 PM: AAPL shares are trading down 1% at 2:12 PM ET

2:09 PM: New iPhone has “smart HDR.” Portrait mode is back!

2:06 PM: New camera hub on the back houses a 12 MP wide-angle camera and a 12 MP telephoto camera. The front camera is 7MP with a faster sensor.

2:04 PM: There’s more in AR with another game demo kicking off on stage. Atli Mar, CEO of Directive Games shows off AR arcade cabinet. “Stereo widening” makes sound more immersive in AR environment.

2:00 PM: Apple kicks off AR demo with NBA hall of famer Steve Nash!

1:55 PM: Bethesta Games show a demo on the new iPhone. Todd Howard of the game studio shows the game Blades available for preorder now, to be released later this year.

1:51 PM: iOS 12 features AR, Memoji and Siri shortcuts. A12 makes Core ML nine times faster with one-tenth the energy.

1:50 PM: AAPL shares are trading down 0.70% at 1.50PM ET.

1:45 PM: The new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max house the A12 Bionic – the industry’s first 7nm chip, says Phil Schiller. Apple designed 6-core CPU, and an Apple designed GPU, with an updated 8-core machine-learning neural engine.

1:40 PM: Apple iPhone XS now comes in 5.8″ and a mammoth 6.5″ OLED Super Retina Display called iPhone XS Max – both supporting HDR 10. Made of surgical-grade stainless steel, the iPhone XS comes in three colors — Gold, Silver, Space Gray.

1:39 PM: NEW iPhone XS is launched!! “The most advanced iPhone we have ever created.” It comes in two sizes.

1:37 PM: Tim Cook is back and announces, “Now let’s talk about iPhone.”

1:35 PM: Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $399 without cellular, and $499 for cellular. Series 3 is on sale and now at $279.

1:34 PM: Series 4 Watch will be available from Friday!! Shipping of Apple Watch begins on September 21.

1:33 PM: Old Apple Watch bands are compatible on Apple Watch Series 4.

1:30 PM: Apple Watch 4 has 18 hour battery life. 6 hours of outdoor workout time.

1:29 PM: New Apple Watch video starts!!

1:24 PM: Apple receives FDA clearance for the Watch’s ECG feature.

1:23 PM: Dr Ivor Benjamin, cardiologist and president of the American Heart Association, is on stage backing the new tech in Apple Watch.

1:21 PM: Apple can NOW take an ECG (Electrocardiogram) making it the first over-the-counter device to do so.

1:20 PM: Apple Watch can now detect low heart rate. It can also screen your heartrate to detect abnormal activity.
