Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in Europe, joined hands with microchip and graphics card giant Nvidia (NVDA) to launch a national AI laboratory.
According to Nvidia, Luxembourg will use the AI lab to tackle a wide variety of things spanning across healthcare, finance and security, to even space exploration.
Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel weighed in, “Luxembourg is nurturing a pan-European innovation ecosystem.”
“This cooperation with Nvidia is big news for our local innovators, and our country is proud to be the first European country to create an AI partnership with Nvidia,” he added.
This is part of Digital Luxembourg, the country’s initiative to become a technological frontrunner internationally.
University of Luxembourg Rector Stéphane Pallage said that the AI lab would be a “cross-pollination between disciplines.”
“Tackling real-world problems involves bringing together experts from across disciplines, not just the sciences but also law, the humanities and beyond,” said Pallage. “This collaboration provides a new context for this approach, and we are sure it will have a very positive impact on the economy and society.
Additionally, Digital Luxembourg also aims to create educational materials to aid researchers and professionals across sectors in applying AI in their work.
