Companies reporting earnings in the week: Jan 28 – Feb 1

A slew of major companies are reporting earnings in the week from January 28 till February 1. Telecom giant Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) will announce fourth-quarter earnings on Tuesday before the bell. Analysts expect earnings to climb 26.70% to $1.09 per share and revenue to rise by 1.40% to $34.45 billion. The results are likely to be benefited by higher revenues and strong subscriber growth. The addition of more registered retail postpaid wireless subscribers will aid in the revenue growth.

Industrial mammoth 3M Company (MMM) will report fourth-quarter results on Tuesday. Analysts predict earnings of $2.28 per share on revenue of $7.87 billion. The results will be benefited by stronger margins and lower income taxes provision. The top line is likely to decline due to foreign currency translation. The company will experience a decline in drug delivery, lower Electronics, and Energy sales, and declines in stationery and office supplies, home care, and consumer healthcare.

Pfizer Inc. (PFE) is set to post fourth-quarter results on Tuesday. Analysts expect earnings to increase by 3.20% to $0.64 per share as the growth of key brands such as Eliquis, Ibrance, Xeljanz, Prevnar 13 and Xtandi continue to drive the top line higher. Revenue is anticipated to rise by 1.70% to $13.94 billion with strength in biosimilars and emerging markets. The bottom line is likely to benefit from lower costs and expenses.

Revenue is anticipated to increase by 13.20% to $4.24 billion with active accounts, payment transactions, and payment volume higher than the previous year.

Visa Inc. (V) will post Q1 results on Wednesday. Analysts project the company to report earnings of $1.25 per share on revenue of $5.41 billion. The results will be driven by continued growth in payments volume, cross-border volume, and processed transactions. The key business metrics such as payments volume, cross-border volume, and processed transactions are likely to witness a double-digit growth. Visa and Mastercard have agreed to lower the fees payable by merchants on card payments made by tourists visiting the EU.

Revenue is predicted to climb 15% to $3.81 billion helped by double-digit growth in switched transactions, cross-border volumes, and gross dollar volume.

Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) will report Q4 earnings on Thursday after the bell. Analysts see a profit of $5.65 per share on revenue of $71.85 billion. The results will be benefited from holiday sales and higher revenue. The company will face an unfavorable impact of foreign exchange rates during the quarter. The company started focusing more on physical retail strategy for improvising retail sales.

Merck & Co., Inc. (MRK) could post Q4 results on Friday before the bell. Earnings are anticipated to increase by 6.10% to $1.04 per share and revenue is likely to rise by 5% to $10.96 billion. The pharma giant will be benefited by sales growth of the cancer drug Keytruda and cervical cancer preventing therapy Gardasil.
