Points to note

American Express can be expected to benefit from its membership-focused business model and its unique range of assets. Its continued focus on the premium space and its efforts in boosting its products and offering newer benefits to customers are expected to drive momentum in the business.

Last quarter, American Express’ top line results benefited from higher Card Member spending and net interest income, as well as strong card fee growth. It saw strong demand for its premium products. Against the backdrop of a dynamic macroeconomic environment and cautious consumer sentiment, the company’s customer base remains resilient.

AXP continues to see robust demand for its products along with strong customer engagement. It acquired 3.1 million new cards in Q2 with transaction growth of 9%. Card fee revenues rose at least 60% while spend retention stood at 98% in Q2.

The company is seeing growth in spend among millennials and Gen Z customers in the US as well as double-digit growth in its international business. The growth in premium products has boosted its credit performance, with delinquency and write-off rates remaining low. These trends are likely to benefit its performance in the to-be-reported quarter as well.
