Smart Global Holdings plunges on weak Q1 results, forecast

Smart Global Holdings (SGH) reported a 48% jump in earnings for the first quarter helped by the strength in its Specialty Memory business. The top line exceeded analysts’ expectations while the bottom line missed consensus estimates. The stock fell 11.41% in the after-market session as the specialty memory services maker issued second-quarter guidance below consensus view.

Net income for the quarter climbed 48% to $31 million and earnings jumped 45% to $1.33 per share. Non-GAAP earnings soared by 51% to $1.75 per share.

Net sales surged by 48% to $393.9 million, benefited by the strength in the Specialty Memory business. The results were also driven by solid sequential growth from its new Specialty Compute & Storage Solutions business.
